How does it jive? Doppelganger Open Mic and the largest digital festival in the world, DreamHack? Eh? Scratches head. Well, it all started last year in 2008 when our company, Go International Group launched our very first Independent Youth Festival (a giant gig) in conjunction with Electronic Sports World Cup (France). Milestones... // About Doppelganger Open Mic Gigs // When Jasmine Low returned to KL, little did she know that by organising one open mic gig with the help of friends back in 2002 at Liquid Bar (thanks to encouragement by proprietor, Jay), that was the start of a series of hundreds of following events for the independent music scene. That accidental event has now led to a series of seemingly never-ending open mic sessions which travel from venue to venue around the Klang Valley. Sometimes at night, those voices still resonate... "Jaz, can I please play one more song?". Then, it was known as VALHALLA OPEN MIC. The gigs eventually took on new life as Doppelganger Open Mic in 2005 and through its partnership with Troubadours, both teams organised 'Troubaganger' gigs at La Bodega Tengkat Tong Shin from 5 June '05- 3 Sep '06. Hello hello! It's great when people come together to do something good for others. This time, I was approached by Michael Lim and Jojo Struys , Founders of Kyanite of Project Alpha to help out at a charity event for the Shambala Kids Creative Mentoring Project. Well, what happens is that once a month, a group of artistes/dancers/singers etc get together and offer their time to coach and mentor children so that they are able to express themselves and showcase their creativity. The result? More confident children :) And this is truly in line with what we believe in at Doppelganger - to provide a platform for people like you and I to showcase our creativity. And it's a stage for us to express ourselves. Sometimes we don't realise how lucky we are until we meet those less fortunate. Let's not let it be that way.
