Organiser: Doppelganger Open Mic - a community project by Go International Group Sdn Bhd.

As we step into September, we step ahead with the 'best' news of all this year! Malaysia Airlines has confirmed its sponsorship and as a result, Independent Youth Festival 2009 will be propelling Malaysia's independent band One Buck Short and singer songwriters Liyana Fizi, Reza Salleh and Rashdan Harith to Sydney for Malaysia Fest and another private gig to promote Malaysia's independent music scene.

This is indeed exciting for Doppelganger KL open mic as it will mark it's first foray to a town where Founder, Jasmine Low spent her formative 20s. This is also great news for Independent Youth Festival as it also marks the second cross country effort in bringing Malaysians overseas. The festival brought 6x Malaysian video gamers to San Jose Silicon Valley USA last year; and will bring another 6x youth (video gamers & blogger) to Sweden for DreamHack - the largest digital festival in the world!

What is Malaysia Fest? M-Fest as it's affectionately known--is the biggest Malaysian cultural event in Australia. It is held annually in Tumbalong Park, Sydney in conjunction with the Merdeka celebrations. This year, it will be celebrating Hari Raya as the date of the event falls a week after Raya. With numerous colourful cultural performances, exhibitions and food stalls serving genuine Malaysian cuisine along the day, M-Fest aims to showcase Malaysian cultures & traditions to all Sydney-siders and tourists.

M-Fest is fully organised by the members of these Malaysian student organisations:

- Malaysian Students Organisation of UNSW (MSO)
- Sydney University Association of Malaysian Students (SUAMS)
- Malaysian Students Association of UTS (MASA)
- Macquarie University Malaysian Students Association (MSA)
- Sydney Malay Students Association (PPMS)
- Petronas Sydney Club (SYPEC)
- Malaysia Hall Residents Club (MHRC)

What's important is that our commitment to the scene, to the artistes. Doppelganger Open Mic, Indie Youth Fest and Go International Group are proud to be a part of this event. For more information on the gig, email us at openmickl@gmail.com.

Be there!
