Go International Group, brand marketing communication specialists, are synonymous amongst the youth and music community as organisers of home grown festival - FEYST: Indie Youth Fest. Meanwhile, Eco Knights, an environmental NGO has been pushing the green envelope with its Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Festival. Since 2012, both organisations have begun collaborating and this year, together with ideas agency MotioFixo, will produce an ECO music video featuring an original song by an independent band. Go International Group curates the Green Vibes show this 12th October at The Bee, Publika in Mon't Kiara Kuala Lumpur. Entry is free.

Jes Ebrahim
Jes
Ebrahim Izaidin, 19 is a singer-song writer who has been involved with
Environmental projects since the age of 9. A founding member and Youth
Coordinator of The Tree Theatre Group, a child and youth based
environmental NGO that uses Art; Music and Theater to help spread
Environmental messages. He has written several songs on the environment
namely ‘Tears of Trees’ that was selected to be one of the official
songs for the United Nations Billion Tree Campaign, Heal Our World which
is a song on climate change, Kunang-Kelip or Save Our Fireflies that
was written for the Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Damansara’s Save the
Fireflies campaign in 2006. His latest song ‘Empty Earth’ was written in
conjunction with the International Year of Biodiversity 2010 and was
performed with the accompaniment of a Traditional Dance theater as well
as A Wayang Kulit or Shadow Puppet show done by the children and youth
members of the Tree Theatre Group during the 4th World Children’s
Festival held in Washington D.C. in June 2011.

Alternative/Indie
Freak folk singer-songwriter has been buzzing the KL scene. Made an
appearance in various music festivals such as Urbanscapes twice in 2010
and 2011, Fesyt festivals 2010, 2011, 2012 and many more. Toured China,
Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and London with just 2 years in the music
scene. He will be releasing his debut album this year called
Transmission. Also, in 2010 he released his EP titled Satellite. He will
be touring London, Australia and many more in the near future.

Bay
Doucet is a 16-year old singer/songwriter/youtuber from Malaysia who
writes songs and records covers while also going to school (which is not
easy, seriously).

Dzamira Dzafri
21-year-old
pop/folk singer/songwriter, Dzamira Dzafri has been performing in the
KL music scene at open mic sessions and gigs for quite a while. She has
been often described as a soulful singer with her mature and rich vocals
that “exude a kind of mystery”. Dzamira Dzafri has also been featured
on national Malaysian TV shows and has also performed alongside other
local artists such as Liyana Fizi, Elvira Arul and Zalila Lee. She was
also invited to play in local gigs and festivals like Moonshine KL, and
the Indie Youth Festival with Swedish duo The Harvest and Dutch
songstress Laura Fygi. She recently became 2nd Runner-up winner of The
Venue’s Diamond in The Rough 2 singing competition.

The Rubberbands
TheRubberbands
are a Penang based nerd rock band formed in 2010 when Eric was
introduced to lead guitarist, Ruth. After a brief pow-wow and a few jam
sessions, they concluded that they’re nerdy enough to start a band. They
are later joined by Hazama on drums and a rather shy bassist, Max. With
loud guitars and catchy grooves, TheRubberbands delivers an upbeat,
energetic performances of their own materials from the ‘generic’ blues
song, “Cina Blues” to a grunge influenced number like “Hypocrite” and
oh, of course, occasionally a few cover songs done it their own style.

Peter Hassan & Markiza
Markiza
and Peter Hassan Brown have been performing and recording for many
years now in London and Malaysia. They have released altogether 4
albums in Malaysia. Recently Wong Lip Kee joined them as lead guitarist
on their latest project (he had been lead guitarist with their band
SOFT TOUCH). Currently (2013) Peter is putting songs together for a new
solo album, and he and Markiza have been writing and performing new
songs about the environment, refugees and the threat to the planet.
They plan to release a mini-album of some of these songs such as Like a
Polar Bear, Losing Nature, Prayer for the Future, Ecopocalypse and
Refugee.

Azmyl Yunor
One
of the key pioneering figures in the local modern folk scene, Azmyl
Yunor’s knack for snappy storytelling and catchy hooks (coupled with his
unparalleled wit and energetic live sets) have won him audiences across
age, class, and cultures. His latest release - “Wilayah” (2012) -
re-introduced him to new and familiar audiences alike with its urgency
and reinforced his presence as an inimitable and acclaimed
singer-songwriter. 2013 marked proved to be another landmark year: he
released a retrospective cd of his earlier cassette releases from the
1990s and early 2000s called “Revenge of the Rabak” and has had a
musical staged based on his life and works called ‘Something I Wrote’.
He, however, remains a cult figure with a small but supportive following
who prefers to navigate along the margins of the music scene and
practice his art on his own terms with a very distinctive and singular
vision.

Viv & TNJU
Northern
Jazz Unit was formed in late 2011 by members of Northern Jazz Ensemble
to explore jazz in a combo setup. The group is led by Jerome Quah on
piano, and made up of Kenny Roy Gabriel on bass, Siva on drums, Jonathan
Yee guest appears on saxophone & flute plus Viv Adram on vocals.
The group’s repertoires includes swing, latin and contemporary jazz. The
group also occasionally performs pop tunes adapted into the jazz
genres.

S.O.G
Sekumpulan
Orang Gila (SOG) is an uprising band from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Consisting of six talented musicians, SOG expanded their music
influences by adding some native world music such as African, Indian and
Arabic beats and melodies, plus Malay traditional tunes and some
classical elements from baroque and romantic period into their music.

Kien Lim
Kien
Lim is a Folk-Rocker who writes and sings his songs with the assistance
of gritty guitars. He now lives in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia though he
spent some years in London, United Kingdom, gigging in bands as a
guitarist as well as a solo performer. He has a penchant for haunting
melodies and started singing and composing in 2003. His music is a cross
between Led Zeppelin and Gillian Welch.The beginning of 2013 saw Kien
getting back in the swing of things after a two year hiatus. With his
low slung electric guitar, he now performs solo, or with a drummer in a
power duo format.

Jaya’s new UPCOMING band is a 4 piece band. Fazz is going to bring you
on a journey though a music or musical experience by combining
Swing,Funk and Blues into something EXTRAORDINARY! Formed in July 2012,
the band combines various elements of music to make something unique to
the ears. Inspired to write something more, breaking the boundaries of
musical genres that uniquely identify themselves, Fazz’s lyrics are
filled with stories worth sharing and singing.

LOVE THE ENVIRONMENT
HERE’S a chance to enjoy some live music at this year’s 6th Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Festival, supported by Maybank Foundation and Taiwan-based software company, Cyberlink.
Called “Green Vibes”, the musical performances are annual features in KLEFF and bring together local artistes in support of a better environment.Get ready for some dynamic and exceptional live performances of new, emerging as well as current acts in the country.
Performers include Azmyl Yunor, Jes Ebrahim, Peter Hassan & Markiza, The Rubberbands, Dzamira Dzafri, Bay Doucet, Ariff AB, Viv & TNJU, Kien Lim, S.O.G, and Fazz. All the performances will be held at the Bee, Publika on Oct 12 from 3pm.
Apart from the performances, check out some of the award-winning environmental films that will be screened at the festival for free. For teens and kids, there will be a series of creative and engaging recycled art workshops.
“EcoKnights wants to open people’s eyes and inspire them to start thinking about their lifestyle and environmental impact and to do something about it. They do this through an incredibly creative platform with films, workshops, exhibitions, street performances and music because they understand the importance of getting people’s attention first in order to get the message across,” says Eliza Mohamed, head of Maybank Corporate Affairs.
