Wayang Kata II presents....

Malika Booker in action Photo courtesy kakiseni.com Review Wayang Kata II Wed 22, Nov 2006 “While performing her duties as queen,” Jerome Kugan read with a grin, “Cleopatra sometimes wore a fake beard.” This was Odd Spot #155, printed on a strip of waxed paper stuck to a Libra brand pantyliner, which Jasmine Low -- one half of Troubagangers; Jerome’s the other -- had acquired in Sydney. Jasmine suggested the moral of the story: “If you’re working for Kotex, or a similar company -- maybe this is where local poets could start to get published!” Why not? As I learned from the night’s performers, poetry is about exploring different ways of using words to get very, very personal. This round of Wayang Kata featured poet and playwright Malika Booker, down under the auspices of the British Council -- she stepped onstage and invited us in as guests: “So to be frank in this living room of mine, I have to go into my love life - It's pathetic. If my mom prays hard for my career choice, oh my g...

Bye bye love, bye bye sanity, bye bye Bodega ;(

Hello everyone, At our gig last night, we were informed by our beloved Restaurant Manager, Siew Siew that as of 12 September 2006, La Bodega would cease sizzlin' and there'll be no more 'horas las locas'. Instead, 31, Tengkat Tong Shin will shed its spanish doppelganger for one closer to its original 'tong shin' roots - a stimbot restoran. The Troubaganger team are saddened by this, but with all good things, it's time for us to take a break and listen to our hearts, voices from next door and ponder on which venue next. All's not lost! KL Sing Song 2006 a HIT!

Sitting towards the back of the room, seeing the fabulous lights illuminating the singer songwriters we regularaly see performing only at our regular cafes and pubs, I feel awe. I love the scene in KL. Man! If only you were there! A roundup? Ariff Akhir belt out songs fast and furious and just oh-so-ariff!!!, Kevin BrokenScar's Melbourne inspired energetic play getting the crowd to repeat 'come back down'... Rhapsody's cool Ywenna and Nicole - like does she have a reincarnate-of-Ella-Fitz-hiding-inside-her voice, Mei Chern in her white crisp shirt and even crisper lyrics, Pete Teo in his ever-so-stylish rendition of BLUE, Meor and his fab strutty guitar playin and raspy voice.... and the night before - an outstanding show put on by Reza Salleh - just melting everyone with his slow and very well paced singing style, Mia Palencia who just knocked us all off with her strong vocals and Pak Pandir - with his quirky charm, Shanon's donut Princess Leia song which stuck to ...

Music @ the Home of Peace

It's a Saturday afternoon (15 Apr) when Jerome, Saerze, Jasemaine Gan, Nikki & Jaz rock up to the corner house at Seputeh. We met earlier at Restoran Berjaya (Bangsar - best nasi padang!!!) to chat about what we were to share with the kids. Home of Peace is a home which cares for 12 orphan girls. And this is the home for which the two Intl Womens Day gigs at Bodega and NBT raised monies - on the shopping list were a RM230 classical guitar, some simple percussions, a tambourine, pitch pipe, guitar stand, chord books and song books - and so we spent about RM365 this first visit. There's about RM70 left in the kitty for our next visit. So we figured a visit to jam with Justine Morais (head of de house) and her galz every month with a different group of singer songwriters - doesn't sound so bad eh. Dont' let your talents be wasted wonton. Teach a chords of two to these girls. Anyways, plan is, we try do this the first or second saturday of the month. Anyone keen, pls c...
