7 Jul: LITE (Japan) in Kuala Lumpur

LITE (Japan) live in Kuala Lumpur

Formed in Tokyo in 2003, the band – Nobuyuki Takeda (guitar), Kozo Kusumoto (guitar), Jun Izawa (bass), Akinori Yamamoto (drums) – are cited as an influence by a new wave of young instrumental bands around the world. Extensive touring since their formation has won them fans in Europe, the US and beyond thanks to their intense, incendiary live performances and a steady stream of EPs and albums has firmly established them as one of the most exciting bands to have emerged from Japan in the last decade.

Amateur Takes Control creates music which is undeniably diverse in style and influence, yet still manages to showcase a seamlessness that justifies their identity as a group.

Inspired by the simplest of things like life, love and waking up in the morning realizing you have another day to be thankful for, ATC strives to translate these inspirations into their brand of heartfelt instrumental music.

Some musicians rely on lyrics to get their message across. Others, such as classical composers, opt words out completely, leaving music to the imagination of the listener.

Local experimental post-rock band (one of the very few) The Metaphor is one such example.

A little over two years in the making, the band boasts a small but steady fan base, having recently released its first five-track EP called “preface”.

Doppelganger Indie Picks: Y2K (MALAYSIA) meets Superman is Dead (INDONESIA)

Here we go again with Doppelganger Indie Picks. Each time, we select one local and one foreign artiste to share with you. This edition, we are shaking with excitement as we reintroduce two punk acts, both of whom have been around for quite some time. Whilst our Balinese counterpart, Superman is Dead enjoys a fan base of over 5million on Facebook, the other closer to home (we're speaking of Ampang in Kuala Lumpur) has an insignificant amount of but in our opinion, have the promise of being a really really really (as my Italian friend Valentina says) a smashing big band! So the long and short is, the Malaysian band Y2K has been established since the early 2000s and is about to release it's second album. How many albums did Sex Pistols release? Perhaps this article (Sex Pistols' Steve Jones interview: 'We should do a covers album') could be an inspiration to them to reinvent, repackage and just bloody get their band out there more and more and more :P Can...
