2012 is Record Store Day's fifth year, and somewhere in Kuala Lumpur, a little music blog decided hey, why not do something of our own over at this side of the country, bring together music fans, artistes and the like for a little bit of good ol' fashioned music gig?
We have gathered some of the few artistes in Malaysia, who have recently released an album last year, and those who will be releasing albums within the year. Catch them perform your beloved tracks from them live, and also get a sneak on what to expect in the near future.
Besides that, you can also purchase your favourite bands' CDs at a DISCOUNTED PRICE during the gig.
So, mark your calendars: DATE: April 21, 2012 (Saturday) TIME: 2PM onwards VENUE: Doppel Kafe, Central Market, KL ENTRY FEE: RM15
14 local acts for just the price of RM15. Just for you lovely music fans - all because it's RECORD STORE DAY! :)
There will also be a donation box set up at the gig to collect donations for Alda Tan, one of Malaysia's longest serving and most active local musicians, who was recently hospitalised and underwent surgery due to hemorrhaging stroke in the brain. He is currently in an induced coma, with an astronomical medical bill to boot. Read more about his condition here: https://www.facebook.com/AldaEvanTan
WHAT IS RECORD STORE DAY, YOU ASK? Record Store Day is an internationally celebrated day, which started out in 2008 and mainly observed in the US on the third Saturday of April each year. Its purpose is to celebrate the art of music, by bringing together fans, artistes and independently owned record stores.
Over the years, Record Store Day has spread out worldwide, and to date, and is celebrated in countries like Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Netherlands, Germany, with participating indie record stores in Spain, Croatia, Japan, and some 25 more countries.
Indie and mainstream artistes like Death Cab for Cutie, Vampire Weekend, Bob Dylan, Erykah Badu, Josh Ritter, Bruce Springsteen, TV on the Radio, Ryan Adams, Kings of Leon and many more have all gotten involved by releasing limited edition records, as well as performing at participating indie record stores at their respective countries.
