The 3rd Independent Youth Festival [FEYST10 Malaysia]

Hello there! It's that time of year again... the 3rd independent youth festival codenamed FEYST hits town with over 10 multiple events in various locations around Selangor and Petaling Jaya!

What is Indie Youth Fest?
Inspired by our regular Doppelganger Open Mic gigs, Festival Directors Jasmine Low & Nikki Yeo conceptualised FEYST10 as a celebration and a culmination of the year's events - consider it like a wrap party. Our main focus as usual is music + video games. Our milestone since 2008:

** Since 2008, FEYST events have hosted over 350 independent musicians, gamers, bloggers, filmmakers. In 2008, the festival was sponsored by Intel, DIS Technology, Steel Series, Manli Graphics, Sendi Mutiara Multimedia and held over 3 days at 1Utama High Street. In 2009, the festival was sponsored by DiGi Telecommunications and was held over 5 days at 1Utama High Street and LG Rainforest as well as The Star's Studio V.

FEYST events have brought many Malaysian talents to international festivals:
**--5 DotA pro-gamers Team Kingsurf to ESWC in San Jose, USA 2008
**--1 Trackmania pro-gamer Luige to ESWC in San Jose, USA 2008
**--5 Counter Strike pro-gamers Team LZ to DreamHack in Jonkoping, Sweden 2009
**--8 Indie Musicians One Buck Short, Reza Salleh, Rashdan Harith, Liyana Fizi to Sydney, Australia 2009
**--5 DotA pro-gamers Team Nirvana to ESWC in Paris Disneyland, France 2010

Doppelganger Indie Picks: Y2K (MALAYSIA) meets Superman is Dead (INDONESIA)

Here we go again with Doppelganger Indie Picks. Each time, we select one local and one foreign artiste to share with you. This edition, we are shaking with excitement as we reintroduce two punk acts, both of whom have been around for quite some time. Whilst our Balinese counterpart, Superman is Dead enjoys a fan base of over 5million on Facebook, the other closer to home (we're speaking of Ampang in Kuala Lumpur) has an insignificant amount of but in our opinion, have the promise of being a really really really (as my Italian friend Valentina says) a smashing big band! So the long and short is, the Malaysian band Y2K has been established since the early 2000s and is about to release it's second album. How many albums did Sex Pistols release? Perhaps this article (Sex Pistols' Steve Jones interview: 'We should do a covers album') could be an inspiration to them to reinvent, repackage and just bloody get their band out there more and more and more :P Can...
