Airport abuzz with music and shopping
POPULAR indie bands and song writers such as Liyana Fizi, Rashdan Harith, Ady Suwardy, Najwa and Pesawat came together in the name of charity to perform at the MAS Touchdown @ Skypark Terminal SAAS Airport recently.
The indie concert and charity bazaar was organised by Malaysia Airlines in collaboration with Go International Group (the organiser of Indie Youth Fest 2009) with Skypark as the venue sponsor and Bijou Bazaar as the bazaar management company.
Malaysia Airlines’ managing director/chief executive officer Tengku Datuk Azmil Zahruddin Raja Abdul Aziz said: “The MAS Touchdown @ Skypark Terminal SAAS Airport is about connecting with the communities around us to raise money for charity. What you see here today has actually grown from humble beginnings in 2008 as an internal employee driven charity jumble sale at Malaysia Airlines.
“What’s fantastic is that the spirit of MH-Malaysian Hospitality has been extended to the public in the form of the MAS Touchdown. I am excited that we have this opportunity to work with local talents. Even Malaysia Airlines has a band called reaXions that performed today,” he said.
The MAS Touchdown is an extension to the many community relations initiatives already in place at Malaysia Airlines like:
·Project Pintar which is aimed at promoting education as a way to improve the lives of underprivileged children and;
·Change for Charity which is a fund-raising exercise for humanitarian funds in collaboration with Mercy Malaysia;
·Voluntary Carbon Offset Scheme (VCOS) where passengers flying on Malaysia Airlines may pledge a contribution towards reducing the effects of carbon dioxide in the environment.
Proceeds from the MAS Touchdown will be chanelled to Women’s Aid Organisation, Bandar Harapan Organic Farm and Food Bank for the Poor. At least 10% from the proceeds of each Bijou Bazaar stall and all proceeds from the Malaysia Airlines stall will be channelled to charity.
“As the national carrier, we are also committed to supporting our local talent in Malaysia. So for instance, some of the artistes performing today are here because of previous engagements with them,” he said.
The MAS Touchdown was abuzz with activities for those who enjoy music and shopping with friends while contributing to the needy, including some 25 booths organised by Bijou Bazaar.
Those who bought tickets via Malaysia Airlines’ mobile channel MHmobile – flymas.mobi – also had the opportunity to win an iPhone, based on the highest purchase per booking on that day.
Malaysia Airlines auctioned off 10 air tickets throughout the day with successful bidders pocketing great deals to Melbourne, Bali, Phuket, Bangkok and Hong Kong.
Bloggers also vied for a Canon digital camera via an on-the-spot writing competition and there were also on-ground activities including Meet-the-Artiste sessions throughout the day.
