Event Announcement:::

Doppelganger Open Mic presents IZZY MOHAMED, OTAM & JASMINE LOW
at MarketplaceKL

It's about experimentation and collaboration by folks from the Klang Valley. Doppelganger Open Mic Open Stage showcases talents of all types. So if you've a friend who's been writing songs and singing in their bedroom studio, or writes poetry, is a potential comedian, has a dance move which stuns, bring them over this coming Sunday! So don't be shy as we've room for exploration. Hosted by Jasmine Low, Doppelganger is a Go International Group Community Project and simply seeks to provide a stage for artistic expression in the Klang Valley. Doppelganger Open Mic series runs its fifth gig this month at restaurant lounge, Marketplace KL at Lorong Yap Kwan Seng in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.

This month's Ramadhan month gig will feature two very talented singer songwriters, Izzy Mohamed and Otam. A regular feature of this series is the opening segment with readings by Jasmine Low. Performances start at 9pm, while the open mic open stage segment runs from 10 to 11pm and welcomes artistes from all genres, with each given 5 minutes on stage.

Izzy Mohamed started singing in a band called Cultural Cocktails in 2001 which disbanded. In 2003, Izzy was asked by a friend to join their band Escaping Monday to play bass. Even though she didn’t really know how to play back then, she picked it up. That band disbanded once again as half of the members went overseas. Not long after that, Izzy joined Ziel to play bass and at the same time she started worked on her own songs. Some of her current material are from her poems written back then. Otam (and buddy Jason Novak) began jamming in May 2006 using just a mic condenser, a minidisc recorder, one long neck acoustic guitar and one classical guitar. They both recorded their songs in mp3 format (available online at www.myspace.com/otamandnovak) at the patio with some birds tweeking, kids bicycle bell, noisy cars, pedestrians and small noises from the kitchen. Otam is well known in the indie scene and has performed at numerous gigs around town.
