C'est la 'Doppelganger' vie @ Fete de la Musique 2008
Bonjour! Et tu aussi?
Yes, moi aussi! We're all into the homegrown act fever! Once again, Doppelganger Open Mic is pleased to work with Alliance Francaise for the third year running at the global French open mic festival which has been running since 1982 globally!
A yearly event spearheaded by Alliance Francaise, Fete de la Musique (Music Day) is an extension of the celebrations in France every 21 June. Once again this year, Doppelganger Open Mic Open Stage is pleased to celebrate diversity through music and the arts!
This year, Doppelganger Open Mic has collaborated with University College Sedaya International's student initiative, The Hive which is an avenue for students to showcase their creative talents and performing arts. The Hive is held fortnightly on Wednesdays from 12.30pm - 1.30pm in their main campus.
For a day only, Doppelganger Open Mic & The Hive will be presenting 5 musicians and 1 poet within our 2 hours slot with brand new bands like Flow, Djezna's Stalker, Matthew Ong, Nano Kinetics, Rashdan Harith, Greenpaver and Jaz will come together at the Garden Stage between 3pm-5pm at the cute little Frenchy bungalow house/office off Jalan Gurney. Ready to vroom vroom?

On this day, from sunset till sunrise, musicians take over the streets and play to their heart's content from sunset till sunrise. Musicians of all genres, be they amateurs or professionals, are invited to perform voluntarily. Musicians do not pay to take part, nor is the public expected to pay to watch.
Fête de la Musique is not just for musicians, it is a festival of music that is enjoyed by people from all walks of life.
It has been said that in France, in one year alone, more than 800,000 musicians (both amateurs and professionals) from different parts of the world participated in more than 10,000 concerts. Also it has estimated that 10 to 12 million spectators from various countries in Europe actually made their way to France to witness this event.
From June 2005 to October 2006, the Troubaganger Shows (a collaboration between Doppelganger and Troubadours) provided monthly performances at La Bodega – a tapas bar located at Tengkat Tong Shin every first Sunday of the month. This was the kickstart for the Wayang Kata series of spoken word events initiated by British Council. At the end of 2006, Doppelganger opened Indie Scene Café, a two-month project which provided a space for film screenings, gigs, art exhibits and retail outlet for Malaysian-made independent works like CDs, short films. Doppelganger continues to organise occasional gigs and readings around KL. If you know of any bathroom singers or office hummers, email us the suspects and we'll get them up on stage. Send to Jaz at openmickl@gmail.com.
The 2008 calendar has seen Doppelganger's shows appear in No Black Tie and its new home, Marketplace KL.
As a result of many years of organising Doppelganger, Go International Group will be organising for the first time, a 3-Day Mega Event to be held from 4-6 July 2008 titled INDIE YOUTH FEST in conjunction with the National Finals of the ELECTRONIC SPORTS WORLD CUP! Themed 'Celebrating Digital Culture', the event is endorsed by the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDEC) and Ministry of Youth and Sports. Visit our website for more details: www.gointernationalgroup.com/eswc.
Thank you for supporting homegrown music! See you at the next Doppelganger Gig, 29 June 2008 @ MarketplaceKL featuring Deserters and many more!!
