At every Doppelganger Indie Picks, we select one local and one foreign artiste to share with you. This month, we are pleased to share two amazing acts; acoustic singer songwriter, Jerome Kugan of Sabah, Malaysia and Santigold of Nigerian and American electro act. If only they were to meet. Magic could happen!


Name: Jerome Kugan 
From: Kota Kinabalu, Sabah (Malaysia) 

JEROME Kugan was born and raised in Sabah, but has lived in Kuala Lumpur since 2000. Over the years, he has made a mark for himself in the arts, entertainment and media industries. He was the media manager for the Annexe at Central Market. Before this, he was the managing editor for KLue and copy editor for Junk magazines. Apart from having a degree in Professional Writing from the University of Canberra, Australia, Kugan is a published poet and self-taught musician. His debut solo album Songs for a Shadow was released in 2008, earning him a Best Pop Vocalist nomination in the Voize Independent Music Awards (Vima) 2009. Santi White (born September 25, 1976), better known by her stage name Santigold (formerly Santogold), is an American songwriter, producer, and pop singer. Doppelganger Indie Picks: Y2K (MALAYSIA) meets Superman is Dead (INDONESIA)

Here we go again with Doppelganger Indie Picks. Each time, we select one local and one foreign artiste to share with you. This edition, we are shaking with excitement as we reintroduce two punk acts, both of whom have been around for quite some time. Whilst our Balinese counterpart, Superman is Dead enjoys a fan base of over 5million on Facebook, the other closer to home (we're speaking of Ampang in Kuala Lumpur) has an insignificant amount of but in our opinion, have the promise of being a really really really (as my Italian friend Valentina says) a smashing big band! So the long and short is, the Malaysian band Y2K has been established since the early 2000s and is about to release it's second album. How many albums did Sex Pistols release? Perhaps this article (Sex Pistols' Steve Jones interview: 'We should do a covers album') could be an inspiration to them to reinvent, repackage and just bloody get their band out there more and more and more :P Can...

Fete de la Musique 2010 has invited Doppelganger Open Mic to help arrange a slot again. The Fête de la Musique is above all a free popular festival, open to any musician who wants to perform. The musicians perform for free, and all the concerts are free for the public. It happens all across the world and it will be celebrated in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday 20th June from 5 pm till late. Musicians and music lovers will enjoy one open stage at Palate Palette (21 Jalan Mesui, 50200 KL).
