It's been a whirlwind affair - 3 months since the opening ceremony of the 5th Independent Youth Festival on 28 September in Central Market. We have produced over 20 events and featured more than 50 acts from Central Market to DoPPel Kafe, Universiti Malaya to Panggung Anniversari at Taman Tasik Perdana. We are pleased to announce that we'll be closing the festival on 13-15 DEC at Publika with all-day entertainment; things-to-do, gaming competitions and a free concert! All this, together with our beneficiary MERCY Malaysia! Charity Fashion Bazaar will have plenty of pre-loved and new items on sale! Handbags, shoes, accessories... you name it! Wayang Kata began in Kuala Lumpur in 2006 as collaboration between the British Council and Jasmine Low and Jerome Kugan, of open mic events Doppelganger and Troubadours, as an attempt to popularise the spoken word. Three years of performances to a packed house saw a host of UK poets grace the Wayang Kata stage in Kuala Lumpur - Francesca Beard, Jacob Sam-La Rose, Malika Booker, Kim Trusty and Polarbear - alongside a constellation of rising Malaysian poetry stars.  This month, Wayang Kata brings the fun to George Town, Penang for the first time! Meet Peach. I have never met an artist like Peach. He paints, draws, and sketches because he just loves it. When I first met Peach it was perhaps 4 or 5 years ago when my friend Say Ming bumped into me in Bangkok when I was on a work trip. So as my tour guide he took me around and we ended up in Chatuchak Market. It was an amazing place! He took me to meet Peach - hi s artist friend with a shop in the market. There was something about Peach that I loved instantly. Perhaps, it was his love for cats (he had about 4 in in his shop then - all rescued from the streets) or the fact that he just loves sketching cats!
